Exchange for Something Else, also called Shop Now, lets customers exchange their return for a new, different item. Instead of waiting for a refund or gift card, they can shop again right away. This turns a return into a new sale and helps you retain more revenue.
Shop Now is available in two formats:
- In-swap
- In-store
This flow can include a bonus incentive to encourage exchanges over refunds.
Changes to the Exchange For Something Else Feature
The recent updates to the Exchange For Something Else flow include a transition from gift-card-based “Shop Now” to a direct exchange model. This update also adds the possibility of multi-item exchanges. Some settings need to be adjusted to adjust your portal for the new flow.
⚠️ If “Shop Now” was previously enabled, this will now automatically enable the new Shop Now Experience, even if Exchange For Something Else was disabled. The bonus incentive from Shop Now will now be applied to the new Shop Now experience.
If a gift card is preferred, we recommend disabling Shop Now, and enabling Shop Later with the preferred incentive.
Shop Now - In-Swap
The In-Swap Shop Now Experience lets customers browse and purchase a new item during the return process through the returns portal. This was previously known as Exchange For Something Else.
The return value, and any configured incentive, is automatically applied to the new purchase.
Shop Now - In-Store
The In-Store Shop Now Experience allows customers to browse a purchase a new item directly in your storefront during the exchange process. The return value and incentive is applied through your store.

Shop Now vs. Shop Later
While Shop Now drives immediate repurchase, Shop Later offers a digital gift card for future use. Both options support incentives and help retain customer spend.
